Science: VCE Chemistry

You will construct a poster researching a gene technology and subsequent impact on biological evolution with reference to political, moral, ethical, economic, legal and/or social implications

Starting Points

Search Tips!

1. Place the entire name of the person in speech marks. E.g. "John Dalton". This way you only find information about people with this exact name, not just any John.

2. Cross-Reference: Check the information you find in at least two different places.

3. Some links to get you started...

Important People in Chemistry Research Task

Over time the views and options around chemistry have change and continue to change. However when we are looking at studying the basics of Chemistry it is important that we understand what has been discovered and how they were discovered.

Your task is to look at the following list of scientists and look at the major contribution they have made to the world in Chemistry.

Who do you need to look into:

  • Alchemist
  • John Dalton (1766 – 1844)
  • J. J. Thompson (1856 – 1940)
  • Ernest Rutherford (1871 – 1937)
  • Niels Bohr (1885 – 1962)
  • Dmitri Mendeleev (1834 – 1907)

What you will need to discover about EACH of the above people (needs to be 2 to 3 sentences with the use of pictures/diagrams)

  1. Who they are?
  2. What they discovered, in relation to the atom?
  3. What was their major contribution to Chemistry?
  4. How they determined this?
  5. Why is this significant?

How do you display what you have discovered?

You can use any form to display the information, however you need to ensure that the information is neat and tidy and easy to follow.
